How has marketing profited businesses in america over time? or some examples?

im writing a research paper on marketing that has to connect to the "american experience." so i need something i can cite that would prove the statement "Marketing has greatly profited businesses throughout america over the decades" and connects to the thesis of "companies should continuously look for innovative ways to attract new customers."

  1. Basically anything Apple.

    Fed Ex to a certain extent.

    There is a study that says children enjoy vegetables more when they are in a McDonald's wrapper.  Google that and use it as a source.  If you can get kids to enjoy vegetables, then you have some powerful marketing.  Another random marketing stat is that Coca Cola, or Coke, is the second most recognized word in the world after the word "Okay".

    The best marketing of all?  Sliced bread.  For 15 years no one knew sliced bread existed.  I guess they didn't know it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.  It took Wonder bread accepting and marketing to product to make sliced bread common today.

  2. You might also want to take a good, close look at Coca-Cola.  They've defied all odds, kept their marketing fresh with a stream of new campaigns and marketing angles, and have become the lucky/smart exception to the normal product life cycle.
