  1. It has given me a lot of confidence. Not just confidence to defend myself, but confidence to know that I can stick to something and excel.

I feel like, if I put my mind to something, I can do it.

  2. I have been an introvert all my life.  Meek, mild the works.

When my son started karate I wanted to do tai chi but the only place that taught it was too expensive, so my husband suggested that I give karate a go instead.

I finally summoned up the courage (just to walk into the dojo) and I haven't looked back.

I sometimes think that my husband wishess that I hadn't got the courage LOL!!!

  3. it has helped me in terms of fitness and in terms of friendly fights

  4. lol kitty kat..

Its given me a wider perspective of what fighting really is.  Prior to becoming a martial artist I thought a fight really only involed striking.  As I began wrestling and BJJ I realized that fighting is multi faceted and that being profcient in only one aspect made me vulnerable in others.  Since I have made this realization I have been involved in several street fights that end in my opponent placing himself right where I wanted him, which led to his defeat.  It's also given me the confidence to stand up for whats right and defend those who either cant or wont defend themselves...Martial arts changed my life

  5. I took karate a couple of years in college, but I really got back into it when I was in my mid 30s with my daughter.

It has really given us something in common that we can relate to.  That's important to me as she is nearing her teenage years faster than I want to admit.  I know for her, it has given her a way to deal with bullies and the courage to walk away from confrontations she may have otherwise been sucked in to.

For me, it's great for my health, my confidence, my awareness, and my own inner peace.

  6. well i havent taken martial arts,

but i suppose that it boosts moral, endurance, and stamina

also, it upholds what its known for and that is discipline.

it helps people get over things in my opinion

  7. I can fly. I couldn't before.

  8. I was badly and severely bullied at school and in my early working years, I took up boxing eventually to gain confidence as I was always introverted and an easy target at that time, then I studied shukokai/shotokan karate and  Lau gar Kung fu, by the time I reached 28yrs old I feared no one and thought I knew how to defend myself very well as I had 10yrs of testing myself against all the wannabes and hard men and successfully won. Then by chance I happened to through my brother to witness a Jiu-jitsu class which scared the sh*t out of me and I felt 13yrs old again,so I decided to join and learn the advantages I feared whether it killed me or not and eventually I became a coach after many years of training and now have turned full circle as I no longer feel the need to prove myself as I have the tools/knowledge to defend myself against the most determined of scum, bullies or opportune blind shot snipers and feel at ease these days studying and practicing my Buddhist teachings although I still want to get back into ma especially Aikido or wing chun if I can find a club cheap enough without block bookings or contracts.

    Best wishes :)***

  9. Finally a great question.

I lost my right ear at an early age of 12. Due to the operation that took place, every thing in my ear was removed. If you know anything on balance, you know we humans use our ears often for equilibrium. I had none, so I had to learn it all over again. This is where martial arts came in handy. Due to prior training and continual training I regained most of my equilibrium back. On top of that learning how to fall didn't hurt much either (figure of speach, it actually hurt allot at first)!
