  1. Keenly follow the newspapers, where blow by blow narration is offered on day to day basis. Others who call themselves as 'pundits', columnists, some ending up in writing books do that - carefully taking down meticulous notes.

In fact, before actual division in the house (voting in Lok Sabha), market eagle-eyes have already computed the actual figure if you ignore the little bit of last-minute glitches. Men who dabble in that market are "in the business, so as to be in 'business' and not out of 'business' ".

  2. Yes, the vote of confidence has positively affected the Sensex after the vote of confidence was won.

Since the withdrawal of the Left support, there was an uncertainty about political stability and timing of next general elections, besides the fate of the nuclear deal and economic reforms. This led to a accentuation of the slide in the Sensex which was aleady in the grip of a bearish phase. However, after the vote of confidence was own, the Sensex rose up for sometime.

The data that is relevant is the Sensex daily open/ close and high/ low values available from daily newspapers for the period from the date the left withdrew support to a few days after the vote of confidence was own. If you studu the series of closing prices on successive date and record the political events on different dates you can see this.

If you want more close scrutiny, you may have to study the movement of Sensex with the day from hour to hour on the important dates like announcement of withdrwal of support by leftist parties,  Samajbadi party announcing support, etc. etc.
