  2. Many babies in develoing nations, such as Guatemala, die during the first month of life and it's believed that something as simple as a tiny knit cap could increase their chances of survival by preventing heat loss through the baby’s head.  There are groups of knitters, such as "Caps To The Capitol" in the US, and "Save the Children" in the UK, that knit newborn babies caps, donate them, and send them to those developing nations in order to help those poor babies survive.

More info on the  "Caps To The Capitol" and the "Save the Children" projects are at the links below.

  3. Our knitting guild knits for orphans in developing countries, socks, hats, sweaters, etc.  We also knit little hats for Preemies in NICUs all over the country, also tiny sweaters and baby blankets.  Project Linus takes blankets for traumatized children and we also knit for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Warm Up America squares which are made into blankets for the homeless, also we knit and crochet Afghans for Afghans.  So, yes, knitting does save lives.
