How has the recent steep hike in gas prices affected the lives of US citizens ?

We pay more for gas

We pay more for everything that requires oil to produce and to transport to market.

Some of us who were already on the margins of going broke went broke.

People are still going to the movies. They are still eating out. They are still buying tobacco and lottery tickets. They are still eating junk food. They are still going on vacation. They are still buying blackberries. They are still enrolling children in private schools. They are still flying.  I don't see a whole lot of sacrifice.  The solution is:

reduce the taxes on gas. The govt makes more than the oil companies.

Drill where we know there is an abundance of oil.

Use efficient alternative fuels when possible. You can't run your car  on wind and ethanol has been a complete bust.

Build more refineries.  This would increase the supply of oil available.

Open up the strategic reserves.

Oh, and don't forget to tune up your car and inflate your tires!

For you Exxon haters. Exxon paid more in taxes to are gluttonous govt than they made in profits. Exxon paid out huge dividends to stock holders. That would include: teachers, janitors, trash truck drivers as well as those evil rich people. they spent more than 90 billion in alternative energy research

exxon along w/other oil companies made billions of dollars in one quarter. they can reduce their prices if they wanted to. america needs their help. this affects every inch of our lives. i have been reduced to eating hot dogs and oodles of noodles. instead of riding to the store, i walk. a gallon of milk is ridicules, eggs too. we can't order take-out, cause their prices have gone up. i am very afraid...
