I need a little help with this one! How has the role of the corrections officer changed with the evolution of prison management?

  1. Originally the Correction Officer was charged with care, custody, control, and rehabilitation of the inmate.  Today with the advent of more social programs, and social or case workers to administer them, the Correction Officer does not get involved in the rehabilitation of inmates.  The bad portion of this idea is that each Correction Officer spends eight hours of his working day with inmates, and if allowed could be a positive influence in the inmates life.  The social workers, may spend 20 to 30 minutes a week with an individual inmate, and exert very little real influence on his thinking.
