How has the state of Illinois been improved by Barack Obama?

He was a community organizer, lecturer, attorney and senator since 1985. How has the state or community he has worked in for 23 years better off than when he started? How has it changed?

Not near as mush as Alaska has improved under Palin.

She took on the corrupt republican establishment in her state and won. She has an unheard of 80% approval rating.

She taxed the oil companies in Alaska and gave a $1200 tax rebate to everyone. She is doing such a good job as Governor that the state has a surplus which she returned to the people of Alaska.

Not really sure to be honest, but I'm just posting this because I know that there will be a fair amount of slander against Obama, so I may as well try bring forth some sort of balance in opinions.
