  1. Way back in the day everything was on what was called a party line, which is where 8-12 different households were all served by the same circuit as opposed to now where every house has a dedicated cable pair. This didnt give people much privacy as anyone of the 12 families on the line could pick up the handset and listen to anyones conversation, another difference is that each of those families all had their own distinct ring, for example short ring short ring for family A, short ring long ring for family B ect. Hopefully thats what youre lookin for.

  2. Well one of the biggest changes is how we use the phone. Verizon created the new fiber optic lines. This is a great invention because it doesnt get wet and its easier to maintain unlike copper. Also there are a lot of features for your phone line...cordless phones are a great invention too.

  3. The first telephone I can remember had an earpiece on a wire and a voice piece attached to the unit, you had to turn a handle to call an operator, give them the number you wanted to speak to and then they would connect you.

Then came the dial phone with a circular disc with holes in it which corresponded to either letters or numbers, to call a number you put your finger into the hole you wanted and turned the disc until it stopped, repeated the step with every individual letter and number until you called put in the number you were calling.

Next came keypad phones, digital phones and now voip with video phones.

May have missed some types but those are the ones I can remember using.
