How have I been able to tune in satellite channels even though I only have the basic channels bbc, itv ect

This happened last year as well at the same time but the channels went off at about september time. The channels are sky sport 1,2,3 euro sport, living, bravo, cnn and the best one the adult channel.

Also is their a way of keeping these channels?

has your dish gone out of allinement mine did and i had to have it realined but i insure my dish /box/cable  wiring with sky

because what ever they will come out and fix it  on this visit they they gave me a new box which would of cost £150.00 new lmb that was £100.00 and wiring £80.00 so for me insuring it is worth it and we have been getting some nasty weather just latly

Does one of your neighbours have satellite? used to happen to us...our TV used to pick up some of their channels.
