How have Team Williams fared in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far?
The 2011 Formula 1 season is well and truly alive and it is becoming tougher with every passing race for the teams participating in it.
Formula 1 team Williams’ performance is not so impressive in the season so far. However, their progress seems to be improving since the last couple of races of the ongoing season, as the team driver Rubens Barrichello successfully scored some points for
the team in the Monaco and Canadian race weekends.
After completing the winter testing of 2011 Formula 1 season, Williams team kicked off to a worst season. At the season opening Australian Grand Prix, both the drivers, Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado retired from the race due to transmission issues with
their FW33 car.
After the Australian GP, Williams fixed all the issues and made their car perfect for the second round of the season. Both the drivers took part in the Malaysian Grand Prix with hopes of scoring some points for the team. However, they again had some issues
with their car and could not finish the race due to that.
After fixing all problems, Williams went in for the Chinese Grand Prix with a perfect car, where the team driver Barrichello had a trouble free race and ended up at the 13th place. His teammate Maldonado was very slow behind him and finished his
race at the 18th place.
Williams delivered some new upgrades to their 2011 car ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix. The team believed that the upgrades will provide them good results in the Istanbul race weekend.
Both the drivers Barrichello and Maldonado were again unable to impress their team and finished the race at the 15th and 17th places respectively.
After the race, the drivers admitted that their cars were not supportive for them during the grand prix. However, they added that if the team provides them faster cars, then they can give them decent results.
The Brazilian seemed to be unable to perform well on the grid until the Spanish Grand Prix. After that, he really worked hard in the next two races, held in Monaco and Canada respectively.
In both races, he ended up at the ninth place for the team. On the other hand, the Venezuelan took 15th place for Williams in the Spanish race weekend. In the next Monte Carlo Grand Prix, he again failed to deliver his impressive run on the grid
due to an accident.
In the recently held Montreal Grand Prix, the 26-year-old driver retired from the race, as his car spun off at the track during the closing laps of the race.
Williams FW33 car’s pace has not been good in the season so far. In addition, it did not play a supportive role for the drivers in the first seven rounds.
Rubens Barrichello is in the 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 4 points, while his teammate Pastor Maldonado is at the bottom of the table, pointless.
The team is busy planning to introduce new upgrades to their car for the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix which is scheduled to be held on June 26, 2011 in Europe.
After a good race weekend in Montreal recently, Williams are hoping for better results from their drivers in the remainder of 2011 Formula 1 season. Let’s see how they fare in the upcoming races.
