Question:

How have gas prices BENEFITED you?

It sounds crazy, but high gas prices have benefited me. How? Well, now I am much more likely to buy ONLY what I need, and I am much more likely to look at what I have and to figure out how to make it last. I'm also less likely to leave the house as often.

This means that my house is a lot cleaner, this means that my child watches less TV/plays less computer games, and has more time to help me clean.

This also means that his grades in school (well, when it was school time) went up because I was there to ride him a little harder. My roommate's daugher's grades went up as well.

We all walk more often, and go outside a lot more often.

We all know exactly where roommate's child is at all times as it's pretty hard for her to be evasive when she's right there or when we are right there.

Better behavior, higher grades, cleaner house, more exercise . . . I don't like higher prices on gas but I like the benefits.

What about YOU?

  1. I have never really thought of it like that. I guess things are better. I stay home and spend more time with my daughter and go on more walks. My daughter is only 17 months so spending more time with her is always great. Plus, I am 8 months pregnant so getting some exercise is always great.

Thanks for sharing, it made me think a little bit. I hate the high gas prices but it's nice to get out of the house and walk where I'm going rather then driving. Plus, it's safer on the environment. :)

  2. I've been getting more excercise - walk to the library and store

  3. High gas prices are great!  I don't worry about fashion nearly as much.  I spend more time at home.  I clip coupons more, finally using those trusty scissors.  I don't drive as much, putting me at less risk of accidents.

In fact, I've liked the progress so much, I'm starting a campaign to cut everyone's salaries in half, too!

Seriously, in this type of crisis, It is better to see the gas prices as a glass half full than half empty.  But high gas prices are still damaging to the economy, and they still suck.

In a good economy everyone has a full glass to work with.

  4. before high gas prices i ALREADY watched what i bought, just because it helped me save money...

high gas prices suck, it isnt BENEFITING me at all, its making it way worse. now i cant save as much money for other things, i hafta pinch money just to make it to my daughters doctors appointments, my appointments, going to wal mart is a 15 min drive there and back, and now i gotta do EVERYTHING IN 1 DAY, like i hafta go anywhere i need to all in one day if im out and about.

so yeah, it sucks. it isnt helpin me any.

  5. Well I can understand the staying home more and being outside , but you should always know where your kids are at all times. You should make sure they get whatever help they need to make sure they get good grades.  How much gas you use  shouldn't impact your ability to clean your house .   Unless your a workaholic and never home I dont really see how , or why the other things improved just because your saving on gas.

Not everyone can use less gas. Some people work, every day.  Like my husband.  He has a 2 hour commute than cannot be changed.   And no matter how much gas cost, I always knew where my kids were, my house was and is always clean. The only reason I'm outside more often is because it's summertime now. Nicer, warmer weather.

I guess I see where I'm diff than a lot of people who've answered this question. I'm not really too worried about the environment when I've got loads more to worry about. ( like how I'm gonna afford food, bills AND gas for the month )  Also, I can say gas emmissions have nothing to do with cancer.  Breast cancer, lung cancer and blood cancers run in my family and we don't get it from driving too much .

  6. Nothing wrong with trying to take a sucky situation and trying to see the bright side.

They make me think before I go somewhere I guess, help me to plan better.  Yeah, I did that before anyway, but I've gotten to know my town better by mapping out the shortest/least gas-wasting routes.

  7. well I am walking more and so are the kids, so health benifits and we are helping the planet by using the car less. Your right we need to find the silver lining as whinging won't make the prices go down. But be thankful. In Australia we pay 50% more than America and 1/2 the price of Europes price for petrol

  8. It has definitely put things into perspective! hopefully americans will finally see how wasteful and destructive we are. I think the benefits will become more and more noticeable-like when cancers will be lowered from a decrease in carbon emissions, people start losing weight from riding their bikes etc.

  9. Way to be positive, lol.

I have really noticed that we are saving a ton of money lately because we don't go out anymore.  We don't go out to eat because the gas to go out is too much.  We only make trips to the store once a week and if something gets forgotten - oh well it has to wait for next week.  This cuts down on impulse buying because normally I would run to the store for one thing and buy 50 dollars worth in c**p to make the trip worth it.

Just all the way around, we dont go out anymore and so we aren't pumping money into restaraunts and stores as much.

  10. One way higher gas prices have benefitted me is that I spend more time with my parents. We all live together and have our own car, but now that prices are up, we ride together.

For instance, I had to run to Barnes and Noble to pick up something I ordered. My Mom wanted to go to Pier One which is near there, but she wasn't ready to go when I was. Normally I would have just driven there, but w/gas being so high, I waited and we rode together to save gas.  Then we ran other errands together

Today, my family drove together to eat breakfast at one place.

  11. Think about the environment a little bit more

And gas company stocks have gone through the roof.
