How have plants adapted to the climate in italy??

Italy is a unique ecosystem because of its locality next to the Mediterranian Sea as well as the mountains to the north.  This means there are several different biomes there.  There is no simple answer to the question of how they evolved because each is filling a different ecological niche and therefore have evolved to fill that niche.  For some this may mean a special waxy cuticle over there leaves to retain water during tiems of heightened sunlight whereas for others it could be an extra layer over the seeds to prevent freezing....its all specific to the plant, the locality, and the niche
