Stormwater runoff is every body's contribution to impacts to waterways.  The vehicle you use to travel in, public and private, leaves various contaminates that runoff, fertilizers and pesticides used in the yard have contaminates that runoff, even air pollution from smoke, fumes and dust have an affect on the runoff.

In a longer term perspective, every bay that is now a dock, every wetland that has been filled and every species that has been hunted or fished till they aren't found there anymore.  You need to relate this to the idea that for more than 200 years these activities have been occurring, more intensely in some places than others.
