Since we all struggle to overcome bad habits, I was hoping to use this question as a brain-storm session for how to overcome bad habits in general -- whatever the habit may be. Your thoughts?

  1. Direct concentration. sometimes a habit is a habit because we do not notice it. if you learn to recognize it then you will have the first step to stopping it.

  2. Potato Chips= notice they were breaking me out, I convinced myself I hated them and the were gross. (haven't had a chip in 8 years.)

Biting Nails= hated how they look, that I got so fet up with it that i trained myself to do something else like chewing gum. (rarely)

Addicted Perfectionist= i realized i can't be perfect in any way shape or form. so i worked as hard i could and learned that was enough.

Sweet tooth= saw a picture of me when i was younger and HUGE! if i ate too much of sweets then i felt i would become that again and i couldn't stand that.

**Things like that its all about mind over matter, willpower.

  3. mostly except masturbation its good

  4. I usually just remind myself that the habit is not helping me or other people and I know my purpose is to help people and obviously help myself so I minimize the habit until it is gone.

  5. use post-its to write down the habit you're wanting to change and stick it on the mirror, or wherever you will see it all the time. Include why you feel its important to change (if there is room) Being reminded constantly of what you're doing wrong will make you more aware of them problem..so if possible you can enlist a friend or family member to help you see when you're doing it.
