  1. Check your medical fitness at this site

    http://pilots-medical.com

  2. General good health.

For commercial pilot privileges you can check out :

    http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/tex...

for the exact requirements to pass a Second class medical

To exercise ATP privileges (pilot in command of an airliner) check out

    http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/tex...

    for the exact reqs

  3. If you're referring to a private pilot, all that is necessary is a 3rd class medical certificate.

For a commercial pilot, it is necessary to hold a 2nd class medical certificate.

To be an Air Transport Pilot, a first class medical certificate is required.

For a general outline, this page at the FAA is helpful:http://www.faa.gov/pilots/become/medical...

From there, you can find out more about health requirements.

Some people are surprised to find out how simple it is to get a first class medical certificate.

  4. The previous answer gave good links to the exact medical exam requirements.  In addition, you must just generally be in good shape.  You can't be a couch potato.

If you are flabby, you need to get with the program.  Nobody is going to hire someone who is overweight in a way that calls attention to itself.  Sorry.  That's not politically correct, but it's what's happening.

    Good luck.
