For laden / filed up 55gallons drums, how high can I stack on top of the drums. Usually we place 4 drums to a pallet. Can I stack another layer of drums on top of the bottom one? I need answer for both the steel drums and also the PE (plastic) drums.

  1. No harm in stacking 2 high for the steel 55 gallon drums but not the PE drum.  Be sure not to exceed the 4.5M height restriction in accordance with the Road Traffic Act, and must make sure you have it sercure properly

  2. Yes to both, you can go at least three pallets high on the metal drums.

  3. Stacking 2 layer (4+4) of s/drum is not a problem for both packing into container or lorry. But make sure that the base is strong enough to withstand movement and weight when fork lifted.

Also secure the centre and all 8 drums to avoid slipping or accident.

As it is no joke if a 55 gallon drum were to fall.

For PE, 2 layer is normal, But depend on the design, I have seen stacking 3 layer.

Take note of the height if stacking 3 layer. If you are packing in containers. GP or H. cube.

    Finally, safety first. Happy working.
