Question:

How high can a dwarf gourami jump?

Seriously... I came home from running some errands today and my new (had him 3 days) dwarf gourami has vanished. The 10 gallon tank has a cover, with only a 1"x1" opening (for the auto feeder). Directly below that opening is a feeder ring (which would have forced him to jump almost truly vertical. The rim of the tank is a full 2" above the water line. From there, he must have flopped on the counter, until he fell in the sink and down the drain (unless someone snuck into my house, stole a fish and left).

Has anyone else seen such a high-jump, through such a small opening?

  1. Although not the best jumpers, your fish could have done what you suspect. There are lots of cases of tank fish escaping "over the wall" aquarium covers need to be very secure.

    Then thereis that "Nemo thing".

  2. That's VERY strange. I have a dwarf Guarami and i'm having trouble with it moving at all. They are large fish. Hmm if he jumped he would have stunk up the room, trust me. Check all spots in the tank, ships, rocks, filter. I'm sorry, I can't help much..
