  1. I always thought that a jump was a straight up and down movement.  A leap on the other hand involves moving forward for backward.  Thats as much as I know.


  2. Yes, I too would have thought a jump was over something, on the spot (or near enough) and a leap something that involves a bit of distance.  But then what about the "long jump" in sport?  Why not call it the "leap"?
