How high of winds will it take to shut down ski lifts in most areas?

  1. if its a decent place then around 30-40 mph i'd say. I once skied in 50 mph in VE, and they only slowed down the lift to be safer.


  2. It all depends on the speed and direction of the winds.  Another factor is the type of chairlift, gondola or tram.  Small chairlift chairs swing easier in the winds then a larger chair, gondola cabin or tram.  Lifts can run in higher winds possibly to if there is a good load(full chairs of people) on them.
