How high on a wall is a standard chair rail?

I have one in my condo, and I think it's about 6 inches too high, and it looks pretty stupid.

36 to 48 inches depending on your preference

28 to 36 inches above the finished floor, really just up to you. If your wainscoting is in 8' sheets or 8' pieces they could be cut at 32 inches giving you the least amount of waste. Some desire it to come up to the height of the furniture being used in that area.

the "standard" height is about 3 feet off the floor, but really it is up to the homeowner or contractor. if you think yours is too high, you could always have it lowered, but you might have some repairs to do where the existing chair rail is, such as patching and spackling.  good luck.
