How high should my bicycle seat be?

I have it over the handle bar but when my pedal is all that way down my leg is not fully extended. And are there any other efficient ways to ride technique wise. Because I ride my bike a lot. Thanks.

  1. According to one of my  "Ride on" magazines:

    Saddle position:

A  simple method of determining correct saddle height is to adjust the saddle so that, with the pedal at the bottom of the stroke, you can rest the heel on the pedal while sitting.

Adjust the knee so it is bent between zero and 15 degrees.

  2. As long as your leg is almost fully extended while the peddle is down and your hips dont rock side to side while peddling, you're in the right position.

  3. I think it shouldn't be higher than your waist.

  4. what ever is most comfy for you

  5. Please spend the time to read Sheldon Brown's website on bike sizing it will help you understand not only how high your seat should be but the rest of bike geometry:

    Good luck and happy riding.

  6. leg should be fully extended at bottom of stroke.
