Question:

How high should my uterus be?

I am almost 24 weeks pregnant and my baby is still sitting pretty low and I'm getting kicks/punches below my belly button. I was wondering how high should my uterus be at 24 weeks and how far up could the baby be kicking/punching if it decided to go upwards?

  1. at your obs appointments, do they measure your fundal height? As an average, the measurement from the top of your pubic bone to the top of the uterus (they find this by palpating your abdomen) is generally around the same number of centimetres as you are weeks - so at 24 weeks your fundal height would be around 24 cm. Note that it's not an exact science, as different practitioners measure slightly differently, and the position you're carrying in will change the height slightly, but as it's measured when you're lying on your back it's usually a good guide as to how the baby is growing.

  2. I'm 31 weeks and almost all the kicks I feel are waaay below my belly button.  My dr says she's just lying low and deep.  I'm sure your baby is just fine. :)

  3. I am 25 weeks and my uterus is about 4 inches above my belly button

  4. I'm due on the 21/12/2008 and I've heard that once you reach 20 weeks, uterus slowly creeps above your belly button by 1cm per week. so If you are 24 weeks then it will be no higher than 4cm above your belly button. Keeping in mind that the uterus is not a small thing, so of course a big chunk of it is below the belly button. I feel all my kicks very low as well, I think that's normal. Later on as bub changes position and gets into gear with head down and feet up, you will get kicks near your ribs even and even underneath the ribs, which I'm told can be slightly painful, but by this stage you can maneuver bubs foot to back away.
