Right now the hole in the wall for the shower is 6'6" which looks high to me.

  1. I have a tub surround in my tub and I think it is about 5 foot above the tub.  As for the shower head, I didn't have one permantently installed in my tub but have one I can take down and use on my head and body, wash my dog with it and everything else - like window screens, some rugs I wash in the tub.  I am glad I choose to have a shower head that can be taken down and used instead of being stationary on the wall.

  2. 6'6" is just about right. You might think about a handheld shower. That way

someone little can use it well too.

  3. 6'6" is good. Consider if a six foot tall person is using the shower. There's nothing worse than having to go into contortions to get your head under the spray. I'm only 5'5" and I've been in some showers where the head was only spraying at shoulder height. Can't imagine why anyone would place it so low. I too would highly recommend getting the kind of shower head with a detachable head and a hose, they're very useful.

The tile should come up high enough so that water can't spray on the wall above the tile. In my shower, the plastic enclosure ends just about where the sprayer head sits(below where the pipe comes out of the wall), and it works well. If in doubt, higher is better.
