It depends on the demand and the supply.  That's why is so expensive.   But not like in Europe.  I guess your question should be when is the government strating to give incentives to people and car dealers to promote and purchase alternative fuel vehicles.  Because hybrids is the same as a regular vehicle.

Things are only worth what people will pay for them.  

Assuming you and I are the average person, how high would the price of gas have to get and you still buy it?   Answer that question and that is the price you are looking for.
