  1. That depends entirely on the system in which it is being burned.  For example, you can walk across burning coals barefoot, but if you put them in a kiln to retain heat energy and force air in, it will melt iron.

    What you really need to determine is the energy released through combustion and the dissipation in the environment of that heat energy.


  2. like fire, hot but no flame. Coal is lame w/o a flame.
