  1. good question!

start with the acoustic first, bass is derived from acoustic. you need to have knowledge of scales and progressions when playing bass. for example, the G progression on guitar is G, D, Em7 and C. You play the notes: G, D, E and C on the bass. Of course there's more "fillers" in the bass.

start with songs u like! get the song ringing in your head.

look for tabs (ultimate-guitar.com) make sure to look for highly rated tabs or chords, then look for instructional videos on youtube or wherever.

keep playing although u'll get pain on your fingers.

    keep it up!

    God Bless

    Kev

  2. 1) Learn some basic chords

    2) Apply these chords in songs

    3) Learn more and more chords, and possibly learn to solo? Most people don't really think about soloing on an acoustic... but hey, I sure would LOL!

You can learn chords and all of that online or you can buy a chord book at your music shop!

www.ultimate-guitar.com has some lessons to help you for free =-) There's also stuff up on Youtube!

Learn open chords, then barre chords then move on to the weird chords.

EDIT: Learn where all the notes are on acoustic, then you'll know how to play the bass. The only difference between guitar and bass is that the bass is an octave lower and comes standard with four strings. E A D G. Where standard guitars have E A D G B E.

  3. I play bass, and you should start with a 4 or 5 string bass. First learn some basic scales and riffs. then play songs you like. then learn to slap and pop and do chords. that should keep you occupied for a few years!

And to one of the answerers, bass is beyond guitar-

Guitar= 6 strings, 1 way to play (pick)

Bass= 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, or 13 strings, many ways to play (pick, pluck, strum, slap, finger slap, pop, double tap, etc.)

    Go for Bass!!
