There is no hastle to getting a birth certificate as long as it is yours you are asking for.  The easiest way is to go to the website for the provincial/territorial government and search for birth certificate applications.  Depending on the province you were born in you either mail in an application or apply online and pay with a credit card.  You will have to fill in certain details to prove your identity etc. and that is it.  It took me about 4 minutes to apply and I received mine in less than 2 weeks by regular mail.
