  1. It differs from state to state but here is an example.

    Be a resident of your state

    Be at least 16 years of age (16-18 years old)

    Provide your Social Security Number (SSN)



    Provide proof of identity and residence address (required acceptable documents for proof must be presented each time you apply)

    Have had an instruction permit from your state, another state or the District of Columbia for at least six months. The instruction permit must have been valid for at least six months in the issuing state or District of Columbia

    Provide proof of school enrollment, completion or exemption if you are applying for your states driving privilege for the first time.

    Have a parent or legal guardian certify that you have at least 50 hours of supervised driving proactive. (NOTE: the supervising driver must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver license for at least three years)

    Complete you states DOT-approved traffic safety education course OR complete an additional 50 hours of supervised driving experience certified by a parent or legal guardian. (NOTE: The supervising driver must be at least 21 years old and have had a valid driver license for at least three years.)
