How important are Vitamins to the body's cellular makeup?

Do they play a small or large role and if not why?

From what i understand the body is made up of few vitamins yet i see so many on the shelves.

  1. Not just vitamins but minerals also play a vital role.  They don't make up the body, they provide the nutrition and support for the body to work properly.

    Example, lets just look at B vitamins.

    B1 helps to convert glucose to energy (required for brain and nervous systems operation

    B2 supports the body's cells to make enzymes that release energy to the cells

    B3 supports energy production and other chemical reactions

    B5 supports energy and the adrenal gland hormones

    B6 works with proteins to get them to amino acids

    B9 direct role in cell growth and maintenance. helps with preventing birth defects, mental function and strengthening the immune system

    B12 makes red blood cells and dna

    thats just a little bit about B vitamins alone.  Just imagine what the rest do.
