  1. you are just starting up the ladder not the bottom but a LONG way from the top.

  2. Honestly..... Not at all.   Which is what makes them such an important rank leaving the individuals in the dust.   However, this works out to their advantage.   A large majority of Marines are first termers and enlisted.  This makes for a sea of lance corporals.  Where it helps and hurts them is they have little responsibility other then themselves.  They do most of the working parties and fire watch or duty in the fleet but rarely are PUT in leadership positions.   If they work hard and show dedication they can earn respect (not for their rank but for how they act) and move up quickly in the corps.  At the same time many Lcpls give up and do only what theyre told.  They attempt to get away w working as little as possible and "skate" from duties.   This balance helps weed out the weak and lets the best achieve leadership.

  3. It is one step to becoming an NCO. As a LCPL your cutting score becomes more important than ever to get a promotion to Cpl. Also, in many cases, an NCO can give you the authority to take charge of other junior Marines including other LCPL depending on how well you carry yourself as a Marine and your experience. Currently, there are more LCPLs than PFCs and PVTs in the Marine Corps.

  4. your beginnig your run in leadership

  5. I was an E-4(four ranks up from E-1 or private in the Army)  I was what is called a Specialist.  I believe that Lance Corporal is similar.  It is below the rank of Sargeant.  At this level one is in a transition rank that leads to being a NCO(Non Commisioned Officer)  This is a fairly low rank though does come with some control over others(Privates E1 to E3)  It is a earned rank where one may in fact be in charge of a small team, about 3 other soldiers.... thats about it

  6. a lance corporal is the fourth rank from the bottom.its not a very important rank but you have control over privates and first class private.so overall your not a very important person if your a lance corporal it wouldnt be hard to replace you.but im sure the usmc appreciates every soldier they have.hope this helps

  7. Every swinging d**k is important in the USMC

And it depends alot on his MOS..In the infantry if that LCPL is not present then someone has to fill his role.

In a large sense one LCPL will not make a difference..but at the small unit yes it does..I led other Marines as a LCPL..I gave orders to others as a LCPL..I had responsibility as a LCPL..

It all depends on what his MOS is..

  8. I agree with LAVDOG, but a Lance Corporal is a fairly new Marine and has little responsibility. For the enlisted ranks. It goes from E-1 to E-9 for pay grades. A Lance Corporal is a E-3 on the pay grade system. It does not take that long to get to that rank. Under 18 months. You start to get more leadership as a Sergeant E-5 and as a Corporal E-4. E-3 and below are lower enlisted and are just the workers of the force.

  9. You're like two steps above Low Man on the Totem Pole.

  10. I can't wait to see the Marine responses to this!!!
