How important is German in Egypt?

I heard there are a lot of German schools in Egypt, and German tourists represent a majority in the annual tourism percentage.

Do you think it should be an official language if we consider English as second?

  1. Although English is easy, some people still find it very difficult.  Imagine how things would be with German!

  2. there are very good German schools in Cairo.

many students study there bec they are firm , and teach Arabic, English , and French besides German.

it shouldnt be the official language in Egypt .

Arabic is the official language .

English is a second language , but not official.

French is another second language .

  3. Even german tourists can speak english so why should we learn such a language like it.

(NOTE:Some day i will learn the german language :) )

  4. Alot of Egyptians learn it because they plan to become asylum seekers in Germany

  5. i love germany very much the language und the country

but i dont think germaany should be the official language at all

  6. No, of course not. Tourism should never determine what a nation designates as an "official" anything.

It is too shaky and unstable of an indicator.

Number of schools is another factor. If they can all exist financially from the tuition they charge, then of course, they deserve to be in business. If factually speaking more than 50% of Egyptians have become fluent in German, then yes.

  7. I wish there was more schools to teach German although Goethe institute is doing an amazing job, it's a bit expensive though (700 L.E. per course without the book) and German schools in Egypt are also very expensive.

Of course they can't put German as second or third language:

    1. because English is nearly language no 1 used all around the world,

    2) French comes right after English and almost half of the world speaks both of them. So, French is third language if not second in some schools.

    3) German isn't a very easy language to learn. They can't make students learn German although they have Spanish and Italian which are a lot easier than German.

in the other hand there are lots of people learning German now because of the reason you mentioned; tourism percentage. Again although Goethe Institute is expensive, it's crowded with students, and now you can find lots of Language Centers with German classes more than Italian and Spanish.

I looooove German and i hope to find more people taking it as an optional language beside French.

  8. Unfortunately, even though the system is great, there are NOT a lot of German schools in Egypt - the German govt have slashed funding of the one or two reputable German schools in Egypt and the standard is sinking with many kids changing schools recently.

The official tuition language of the German University is English.

I personally don't know one Egyptian person who speaks German but I do know many who speak French.

If you could identify a third language it would definitely be French.

I am not sure how in the 21st century you can be so bold as to expect an Arab country to define a western language as an 'official' language anyway - surely the growth of the use and popularity of a language just 'happens' and we don't have to put any 'official' and strange stamp on it.
