Haven't heard much from McCain about it - he is too busy wanting to drill here drill now. Palin supports teaching creationism. Didn't even try to whitewash it as intelligent design as GW Bush did.

  1. the no child left behind act which Mccain supports is a complete wash the drop-out rate is the highest it's ever been because of that.

  2. Palin is raising 5 kids and running a state with a cash surplus, has an 80% approval rating and has pi$$ed of dems and Republicans alike by going after crooks in both parties. She got rid of the Governors plane because to her it was a waste of the tax payers money. She has taken on big oil and is an outdoors kind of person in touch with nature. She is probable more like your average Jack or Jill then the connected Washington bureau crates who have been causing our national deficit by bloating the budget for personal gain.

She didn't try to hide her view on creationism? How nice to know what a politicians thinks without the benefit of a pol or study group ala bill clinton. If the state wants to tell my kid life started from a speck of dirt I want the other side of the story told.

  3. Well, apparently science isn't very high on Palin's list.  She wants creationism in the classroom.

  4. I agree education is a state issue.

Things that I believe are or SHOULD be state issues, I tend to not put too much weight in.

But here you go, from his webpage, it's a start (there is a lot more detailed stuff on his page) ... I would do more research of voting records etc. though if this is important to you.

"John McCain believes American education must be worthy of the promise we make to our children and ourselves. He understands that we are a nation committed to equal opportunity, and there is no equal opportunity without equal access to excellent education.

Public education should be defined as one in which our public support for a child's education follows that child into the school the parent chooses. The school is charged with the responsibility of educating the child, and must have the resources and management authority to deliver on that responsibility. They must also report to the parents and the public on their progress.

The deplorable status of preparation for our children, particularly in comparison with the rest of the industrialized world, does not allow us the luxury of eliminating options in our educational repertoire. John McCain will fight for the ability of all students to have access to all schools of demonstrated excellence, including their own homes.

No Child Left Behind has focused our attention on the realities of how students perform against a common standard. John McCain believes that we can no longer accept low standards for some students and high standards for others. In this age of honest reporting, we finally see what is happening to students who were previously invisible. While that is progress all its own, it compels us to seek and find solutions to the dismal facts before us.

John McCain believes our schools can and should compete to be the most innovative, flexible and student-centered - not safe havens for the uninspired and unaccountable. He believes we should let them compete for the most effective, character-building teachers, hire them, and reward them.

If a school will not change, the students should be able to change schools. John McCain believes parents should be empowered with school choice to send their children to the school that can best educate them just as many members of Congress do with their own children. He finds it beyond hypocritical that many of those who would refuse to allow public school parents to choose their child's school would never agree to force their own children into a school that did not work or was unsafe. They can make another choice. John McCain believes that is a fundamental and essential right we should honor for all parents.

As president, John McCain will pursue reforms that address the underlying cultural problems in our education system - a system that still seeks to avoid genuine accountability and responsibility for producing well-educated children.

John McCain will place parents and children at the center of the education process, empowering parents by greatly expanding the ability of parents to choose among schools for their children. He believes all federal financial support must be predicated on providing parents the ability to move their children, and the dollars associated with them, from failing schools."

  5. Regarding the public education system in the United States, there's really no where to go but up anyway. I'd be willing to bet that, like most bigger issues, the McCain administration will produce a LOT more results than an Obama administration. Mark my words.

  6. Hopefully Palin has some education reform ideas. I heard Obama say in his speech that he would hire more teachers and raise the pay of the rest of them. That is a nice offer since teachers are paid with property taxes in my state. How generous of Obama to steal from me to give to teachers that belong to the teachers union. They only work 9 months a year and they are overpaid now!

  7. Republicans are elitist and racist right out of the shoot - 'education' to them means their nasty little private schools.  If you don't have a million bucks you and your children are free to s***w yourselves under republican ideology.  You got some bootstraps - well, start pulling real hard.

The Republican aim is to kill public education - keep 'em stupid - teach 'em the Creationist c**p and the current right wing lies.

  8. Overall...very important.  They will put competition BACK into the educational system and get them off their rears.

I'd rather have an experienced President and somewhat experienced VP than an inexperienced President and an experienced VP.

Besides, it's time to speak up against the socialist tilt my party has taken.

    Democrats for McCain.

  9. You are misinformed on both accounts.  Do your homework next time.  McCain has long supported a voucher system amongst other reforms, in education.  Look at his website for a description.  http://www.johnmccain.com/

Sarah Palin has already built a reputation in AK in education reform.  And no, she doesn't want creationism taught, necessarily.  She wants schools to be able to teach that point of view as well.

  10. WELL PALINS PARENTS WERE BOTH EMPLOYED BY THE SCHOOL SHE WENT TO. HER DAD AS A TEACHER, AND HER MOM AS THE SCHOOL'S SECRETARYSO YOU CAN BE SURE ITS SOMETHING SHE HOLDS DEARLY. THEY WERE ALSO BOTH COACHES.,

  11. Education is a states' issue.

  12. Just look at what the liberals have done to the public schools. Global warming is just not a subject, it’s a way of life for some. They spend their time recycling garbage while they should be doing some home work on math and science.

The stupid public hacks that teach classes are not often qualified, as I have witnessed students, in an high school AP class tutoring their teacher in a college math class.

The more the hacks spend on schools the lower their scores are. In NYC I think the dollar amount per student is 25,000 per year and their SAT scores are among the lowest in the country. I am sure that the students in Alaska  do better. So don’t concern yourself with government spending programs.

  13. Education cannot possibly be too important for either McCain or Palin.  A bachelor degree seems very minimal educational level for Vice President (and possibly futur President )of the United States!!!!  This would just confirm the global belief that we don't know how to pick our Presidents!

And although I don't think there is anything mutually exclusive between creationism and evolution, I think it takes someone very narrow minded and refusing to be logical to support teaching ONLY creationism.  But I'm sure it is very well received in the extreme right of the Republican Party!

  14. Well what about our current socialist schools who turn out uneducated wards of the state! Unabale to read, do math etc. I think we need a change because the children are our future who are important. what good are our current schools?

  15. You can see McCain's voting record on education here

  16. Button- Bomb Button-Bomb Button-Bomb,Bomb,

    Button-Bomb Bomb Iran!

  17. She also was on the PTA.

  18. Not very important.  He supports giving govnt. vouchers to send children to private schools, which undermines public school funding to our already failing public schools.  He has given up on the average public school student.
