How important is existence of renewable forms of energy considering a rapidly growing demand for energy?

The price for gas and oil is constantly increasing.

In UK 2000 wind turbines supply 1% of our electricity. 200,000 turbines would supply all we need. Why do we not do it? It does not seem an impossible task.

Very.  Using non renewable resources is about like draining Earth's fuel tanks.  Once they're empty, we can not just pull up to the nearest planetary gas station and fill up.  Renewable energy will be necessary for the continuation of human civilization.  It will also foster a more open energy environment where monopolistic corporations will not be in control.
