  1. In the US I would hazard a guess that agriculture is in the top of the list but I would guess that it might be a second next to manufacturing. Depends an what you use as a guide. Gross National Profit, import export, number of individuals in occupations, number of actual companies large and small; one would make agriculture lead but another would make manufacturing the lead.

  2. It is very important. If we do not have farmers then how will we get our vegetables or fruits?

We rely on farmers for our food.

If no one took on the job of growing fruits or veggies then we wouldn't have all the great foods we have today.

It is not an easy job either. Sometimes disaster strikes because of how the climate is and everything goes wrong. Some places may get a drought and others may get flooded. So the whole crop of veggies or fruits are destroyed.

We need our farmers without them we wouldn't have food.

We take farmers for-granted and all the work they do.

Not only do we need to think about fruit and veggie farmers but, what about dairy farms, pig farms, chicken farms...ect. We need all of them.

  3. althogh this job might not pay well it is very important because without people would (eventually) run out of food options

  4. Agriculture is the foremost important thing in any country. I am afraid that we are rapidly approaching the point in history where that will become increasingly evident. As countries slow down their exports to feed its own people, countries depending on imported food will suffer and starve. Ask the people of Egypt standing in line and fighting for a loaf of bread how important agriculture is to them. In the USA, we have had an abundance of cheap food for so long that most people do not give agriculture a thought. As prices are increasing and some shortages occur the importance of agriculture will become clearer and clearer. When people get hungry and can't find food to eat they will know the importance of agriculture. Unfortunately, for most people it will be to late by that time.

  5. Agriculture in Canada is almost a throw away industry. Our people mostly buy food grown outside of Canada, and most of our agricultural product is exported. So, like any industry that does not contribute much to the life of the consumers in the country, agriculture is treated as optional. Nice if you can make a buck, your problem if you can not.

Agriculture also employs directly very few people, and the  people it does employ as in manufacturing equipment, mostly are not in Canada. So economically we do not count for much.

We still have a few micro-industries that process foods mostly for Canadian consumption. But Monsanto and Cargill have so much of the industry locked up that it is a lost cause.

  6. Well, in England.. i think that its important because its where most of our produce comes from, although i am for Organic farming because intensive sucks and uses fertilizers and pesticides

  7. In all countrys agriculture should be of the utmost importance.  I hope that's how the people of the US feel.  But I also sometimes  get the feeling that too many people in this country do not really know where their food comes from.  Food comes from the grocery store, right?
