How important is high school Sr. prom to you? Would you be pissed if your mom didn't let you go because of...?

Something you can't control, like a Tourette's tic, or a panic attack?

That happened to me during my Sr. yr. in high school back in 2001. & I don't even have any good senior memories to look back at. My former foster mom punished me WAAAY that previous November of 2000 because of an uncontrollable Tourette's outburst that my evil twin sister provoked.

I graduated from high school with HONORS, & the foster mom made a threat to punish me from walking across the stage to get my diploma. She was abusive & hateful for NO reason.

  1. i would be mad, but i would understand too.

  2. my sr prom wasnt important to me. i skipped it. skipped my jr one too. never thought it was as important as everyone made it be. but if someone wants to go, i think they should go and have a parent tell them otherwise

  3. Hmm. I could maybe understand a mother's fear of her daughter going to prom and embarassing herself with something she cannot control. However, if the girl wants to go, then why not? You're going to have that issue your entire life, you shouldn't be held back or away from important things, or you'll never live...

  4. Ooh she sounds EVIL! ;)

  5. It's a shame because people are living with Tourette's and panic attacks each and everyday.  People need to be more educated and more "open" to the idea that disabilities do not and should not stop people from living.

I've told you before, and will tell you again.  You are old enough that you need to get away from the people who place negative energy around you so that you can surround yourself with positivity so that you can love yourself more and work more on your issues.  I'm sorry that you missed your Prom.  People can be very selfish when they are uneducated and uninformed.

    Peace & Love  :)

  6. I'm sorry that happened to you because of your condition.  The foster care system is really screwed up in a lot of ways.  I would have gone anyways, or just messed with her and leave her wishing she would have let you go.  Like I'd put honey on her pillows, throw her remote controls in the dumpster, pour strawberry syrup all over in her closet, just little things to remind her that you love her.  If there were other kids in the house then how could she be sure it was you?  Well I guess what's done is done, it's amazing that you stuck around that h**l hole long enough to graduate.  Good job!! =]

  7. I didn't go because I was too fat and no boy wanted to be seen with a fat girl.  It didn't bother me because I knew I was fat.  You live through those tough times and they make you a stronger person.  You learn about compassion for others that aren't "perfect" and you learn tolerance of them if not to love them.  For those "perfect" people in highschool, some of them will learn it but it will take them a lot longer and they will have missed half of their life by then.

  8. Honestly high school was never that important to me.  Once you're out of high school, it's so meaningless compared to the rest of your adult life.  I never held prom or any other dances or events at high school as an importance.  I didn't attend any of the dances, prom, rallies, etc...

  9. WOW.

did you eventually talk to the people that let her be foster mom?

i would now if you have not.

would you like another person feeling that way?

that sucks. i would be pissed and would have already hit her.

    haha

  10. to be perfectly honesty i couldnt really care less about my jr or sr prom. just doesnt matter to me

  11. I really don't care about the prom and sure id be pissed of if i ACTUALLY wanted to go and my mom threatened me in that manner.

  12. Uh, parents can't legally stop you from going to prom if you are 18 when it occurs.
