  1. It is very important to have some medical care of some kind while pregnant, and if you have negative blood you will need extra care. You should be fine as long as you have at least a midwife. I respect your decision and wish you luck. And as far as I know I don't think you're breaking any laws

  2. regular appointments are as important as the health of your child and yourself.

I was leaking fluid and would have never even known without the help of a Dr. My friend has placenta Previa.. if she goes into labor her and the baby's life are at serious risk.. the only way you can find out if you have that problem is to go to a Dr. Not going is just plain STUPID. In case you didn't know people in "the old days" died or lost their child MUCH more often than now thanks to medical technology.

what's the point in asking the question if your mind is obviously already made up? You want to put yours and your child's life at risk, we can't stop you but to not believe the truth just because you don't like it is very naive on your part!

  3. To be honest it's really hard not to judge that.  The reason for going to a doctor is to make sure the baby is healthy and that your pregnancy is progressing well.  And you are contradicting yourself when you say that "i don't like people i don't know personally poking at my goods" but then say you're going to have a midwife? Do you know the midwife personally?

Why do you "not believe in going to the doctor"? I guess it's one thing if you wouldn't go for yourself but it's different if you're pregnant.  Are you going to take the baby to the doctor for check ups once he/she is born? If you refuse to do that, honestly, I think that's a form of child neglect/abuse.

Whoever told you it's not important to receive medical attention when pregnant is IGNORANT.

    Good luck.

  4. as long as you have a midwife your absolutly fine! congrats and good luck!

  5. you have to have a midwife before you go into labor and they do check you. only at your first visit do they go between the legs after that they check your blood pressure your blood sugar and measure your wieght and heart beat and uterus growth. i went half of my pregnancy with my second due to medical insurance reasons. as long as you take vitamins and keep healthy you should be fine. but incase if something does happen with the baby you wont know it but the doctors visits can help in that manner.

  6. Gawsh, I wonder how important it is? GEEE. PRETTY IMPORTANT! You must have pre-natal care. Need to see how the baby is growing, need to see if there is any problems or if there will be any problems with the baby or you. You and the babys health is VERY important. YOU GO TO A DOCTOR TO MAKE SURE YOU AND THE BABY STAY HEALTHY. But you go ahead and be moronic. Real stupid thing you are doing. have the baby at home you moron, what if something went wrong while you were giving birth?? god only knows. STOP BEING A d**n IDIOT. THIS ISNT 1935. OKAY? you go ahead and pretend your stuck in the 30's and 40's. rofl. moron.

  7. Sorry, but BS.

Right now, the most important thing this thing is the health of your baby. You beliefs (no judgment) are secondary. It is VERY important.

  8. A midwife will do everything your way so that you are more comfortable with the people you surround yourself with at the birth of your baby. They can do things naturally, but they will always be ready just in case if something were to go wrong with the delivery or even the health of you or the baby. If you did need transported to a hospital, they will do so to make sure you and the baby are alright. I think that getting a midwife in your case is a wise desicion since you aren't comfortable with a typical doctor.

A midwife will still check some of the regular things that a doctor does, only the midwife you will be more comfortable with because they actually get to know the mother-to-be instead of looking at you as just another patient.

I know a few people who only had midwives and loved the experience that they had. Most of them chose the water-brith method to deliver and said that it was a more empowering experience.

    Good luck with everything. =)

  9. you can find out about the health of your baby as well from a midwife as a doctor however they will poke the goods too as you said. its very important to track how the baby is growing and to keep an eye on your blood pressure. you also should get a beta strep test done so you will not infect your child because there are no symptoms to you if you are a carrier. so im not trying to judge you but please be sure to do what i recomended and if your not taking prenatal pills be sure to eat healthy. also sorry to say but in the good old days..babies and mothers died because the baby was too large or because of preclampsia and many other issues.

  10. your personal views are very respectable but you have to realise that the doctors arent going to harm your baby in any way. they are there to protect you. i think its very important. becuase if u dont have a blood test. the doctors cant cheak your health and how that will effect the baby. also you need to know your blood type. 100% sure of it. and cheak for a blood count and all these other things. and yoru blood pressure should be cheaked to make sure the baby isnt in any danger.

there is nothing wrong with visiting a docotr. you wont need to go often just at the strat or NOW.. and then a cheak up here and there or if you think sometings wrong.... you could get away with going twise.... but i think you should jsut get the bloods done they are very important.

  11. To make sure the heart beat sounds normal. To make sure baby is growing properly. To make sure there are no contraindications. To make sure you are not swelling too much, having health problems. To make sure baby is in the proper position when born. To make sure there are NO ambilical cord problems. To make sure you are eating, drinking properly and baby is getting enough nutrience.

  12. If you go to a mid-wife through your pregnancy you will be fine.

  13. It's important because you need prescriptions for vitamins you might not know you need. You need to get blood tests done and tests for different kind of bacteria and things like that. There are many things can go wrong with your child and you and some can be deadly if not handled in the correct way.  I know you may not like going to the doctor I'm not fond of needles myself but you need to do this for your baby. I had some things wrong with this pregnancy that I'm glad my doctor caught and things are better now.  So please go to check on the baby. I had my 3 children with no pains melds but having doctors around is necessary sometimes. Back in the old days alto of women died because of things like this. So it's best to get checked.

  14. i plan to do the same with my next

no there is nothing illegal, you don't "need" to go to the doctor unless there is an obvious problem (obviously lol)

contrary to popular belief in this country home birth with a midwife is perfectly safe, I would recommend doing your research because people tend to attack things  they don't agree with even if they don't know what they are talking about

    try looking at www.gentlebirth.org

  15. To me going to the doctor is very important.  Anything may be wrong.  You can find out earlier in the pregnancy and maybe something can be done.  I don't like hospitals myself but this is a situation when you got to put aside that.  Is this your first pregnancy?  I mean alot of women say no drugs but then once they feel the pain they change there mind fast.

  16. If you don't go to a doc then at least go to a midwife! You need to see someone just to make sure the pg goes well. Trust me everyone thinks they will have a great pg but you never know. I almost lost my third baby at 19wks and if i didn't go to the doc i would have! The doc saved my baby and me!

  17. very important....it will help you get to know the well being of your baby and make sure you and your baby are healthy....mid wife is just as good as the doctor

  18. As long as you're receiving good prenatal care with the midwife and she is CERTIFIED and preferably a Certified Nurse Midwife, you don't have to see a dr - unless she says you are high risk or something is wrong and then it is imperative.

That being said, I would recommend having an ultrasound because that can see things the midwife (or any doctor) cannot see and it's very important. They MUST check for Placenta Previa (a conditon when the placenta is covering the cervix and warrants a c-section or mom and baby will both die) as well as amniotic fluid levels, etc...

My friend did have placenta previa which was not discovered (back in the 80's and ultrasounds weren't routine) and she had lost so much blood that she felt the entire c-section because they could hardly give her any anesthesia. Miraculously, she and the baby lived, but she was under the care of an OB/Gyn the whole time and in the hospital.

Regular gynecologic exams are wise - it's a once a year thing - I don't think anyone likes it... Just find a good woman doctor you're comfortable with. I used midwives and had homebirths, but it was always because I believed it was for the safety of myself and my child. Regular exams are different. You can prevent cancers before they start, or treat them while still curable, etc... If you're a mom, you will want to protect your life for your children's sakes. My friend breastfed her 2 kids and was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Thank God they caught it early - it was going into her lymph nodes already. She has 2 little girls!  Please research and make the right decsions for you and your family. I wish you all the best!

Almost forgot - you do need blood tests and you do need to be tested for Strep B which can be FATAL to a newborn. I had it when I had my 3rd daughter and I had her in a hospital. They gave me antibiotics and we were fine. Look it up!

  19. Going to the doctor through out the pregnancy will ensure the cervix is not dilating and to check for any infections that may put the fetus at risk. Doctor's are professionals and if you feel uncomfortable look for a female gynocologist. A vaginal exam will take less then a minute.

It is important to get your blood work done and they will test your urine.

If the midwife is able to check for all of these requirements you should be fine. I recommend seeing the doctor and having a midwife also for labor and delivery.

  20. Its good to go to the doctor so that they can monitor you for any problems, but if you have a midwife you see through the entire pregnancy that is great too.  By being checked they will watch you for things like gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and can also make sure that your baby is growing properly and that it does not have any problems.  I have a midwife and she is much more comfortable to see and talk to than a doctor and I get all the attention I need to make sure my baby and I are healthy.
