Question:

How important is it to rest the day before a 5k? ?

I am running a 5k tommorow morning. Just wondered If I should completely rest, do a little running, a lot of running, or do some alternate workout- like a bunch of chest and back workouts. A sore chest and upper back wouldn't affect running, would it?

Any tips on the race in general would be appreciated.

  1. A light jog would be good to keep everything loose.  Don't add anything new at this point, sore anything can have a bad effect on your running.  Tomorrow, warm up before the race so you can run hard right from the start.  Don't go out too hard and burn out, let your adrenaline carry you just a little faster than you usually run.

    Good luck.

  2. Hi,

I have a 5k tomorrow morning too and I'm resting. I normally don't do anything the day before. The main thing is to do the following:

1.- Drink water ( not to much but make sure you are peeing)

2.- Prepare you running gear (cloths, sun glasses, etc)

3.- Go to bed early ( this will help you more than you think)

    4.- Get up early

5.- Relax Mentally and Psychically ( running should be fun..remember?)

    6.- Just run

    Good luck tomorrow!

    BREATTTTTHHHHHH

  3. You've done all you can do for this race.  Don't blow it by pulling a muscle somewhere (even the chest) and finding out you hurt when you breathe.

    Good  Luck

  4. It is important to rest, but I just ran a 5k and the day before I did a mile and a half jog/run, and actually posted a good time. Also, the night before and in the morning it is vital to strecth out your muscles. A sore chest and upperback actually could affect your running, i.e., you could have trouble breathing. You should be fine at the race.

  5. I usually run an easy 3 miler

Its is more important to rest 2 days before, to give your body plenty of time to rest.

    I have  race tomorrow too
