Question:

How important is it to use BPA free products?

My daughter is currently three months old and I am both breast feeding and formula feeding. The bottles we use are BPA free. However, my daughter has had some problems with gas and everything, so a friend of ours gave us a bunch of Dr. Brown's natural flow bottles for her. The box didn't say anything about them being BPA free. I know there are Dr. Brown's BPA free bottles, but these aren't I don't think.

I know BPA is supposedly bad, but what exactly are the possible side effects? Do bottles really have enough BPA to cause adverse health effects? Is it really true that BPA is bad? Also, is there BPA in pacifiers, because I don't think the pacifiers we have are BPA free.

Any links to information anyone could provide would be great.

  1. Bisphenol A is a hormone-mimicking chemical  (estrogen) and can possable cause an increase in prostate and breast cancer, uro-genital abnormalities in male babies, a decline in s***n quality in men, early onset of puberty in girls, metabolic disorders including insulin-resistant (Type 2) diabetes and obesity and neurobehavioral problems such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The newest teasting show the BPA letches in to the contents of the bottle even at room temperature not just high temperatures like earily testing.

Here's a link to a list of BPA  free pacifiers

try the Dr.  Browns vents , rings and nipples on your BPA free bottle. I did this till they came out with the BPA free dr.browns

  2. dr brown make bpa free one they are soft plastic or the glass ones not the normal hard plastic. we only use bottles when I am at work cuz I nurse but I still threw all my out and got new one. They say it really only get released if you microwave it..which you cant do with breast milk. But I wanted to be safe the sorry. What I have read about Bpa I wouldn't want to take the chance with it. So  it you can afford to get new bottles I would.Walmart even makes there brand bpa free.

  3. I'm not really sure but I never heard of it with my first child, but I have gone out and bought glass bottles for the new baby, just incase.

  4. The FDA just said that BPA isn't harmful, but their determination is supposedly based on industry research, which could be very biased.

We are not using any baby bottles with BPA.  My son is currently using glass bottles, and when he gets old enough to hold his own bottle, we'll switch to BPA-free plastic bottles.

Canada has actually banned the use of BPA in baby bottles, so that should tell you something!
