  1. maths is important...i failed a-level maths mainly because i was c**p at quadratics...could never get my head around them....but i them passed the maths module at uni with flying colours as it was all mechanics and i like that stuff....

Now i'm an electronics engineer and i find sometimes my poor grasp of pure maths comes back to haunt me...only now i have real situations to apply them too and it gets easier. a lot of the things we thought were useless are acctually very useful indeed sometimes in the most unlikely situations. but don't worry i'm 26 now and is now 8 years since i failed a-level maths and i'm now proving to myself that i can still learn what i failed to do at high school

  2. Maths is the very foundation of most if not all engineering fields.

It is very important because in engineering, you solve problems by designing new technology.

To solve problems, you need to "translate" or model these problems into mathematical language (differential equations etc) and then using maths skills, solve these problems and get a solution. Then you finally convert the solution into real life solution in such a way it can be applied. So you see maths is essential to engineering, be it genetic or mechanical.

Maths is important in predicting physical conditions for a system even before the system is physically built. You can tell with maths if there will be weight/gravity problem for instance with your design even before you design.

21 years old, you still have plenty of time to master this beautiful topic, it's not definitely too late. You may not like it at first but if you have a motivation, then you will come to enjoy maths. You just have to be determined and have the spirit that "if anyone can do it, I also can, there is no mystery or magic to it, just a little determination"

Maths is a very broad subject, it includes mechanics, statistics and pure maths. The most important branch is calculus (in pure maths) because its techniques are used, not just in maths but in almost every scientific discipline. Stats as well.

The good thing about maths is it gives you a certain way of logic thinking. For instance in a maths, you may need to solve an equation which may have 20 steps to the final answer. As long as you start in the right direction and every step is logical and correct, you arrive at the correct answer and you will get to think this way in almost any situation no matter how long the problem is "as long as every step in the way is logical and correct from a good start".

I love maths and I think it is one of the best subject that mankind has ever come up with.

NB: maths is not actually a science (that's why you see in sections, it's written Maths and Science etc).

  3. Math is very important in these fields. You can go from algebra to Differential equations in less than 3  years. It's never too late. You are still very young. You could have a Phd before you are 31!

  4. dude, i'm 23 and just got out of differential equations. math is definately important, as another person said it helps you develop logic and problem solving skills. you're not going to be working differential equation problems or calc III problems in your career but you will use the skills you developed in solving those problems. really its not too hard to pass but it is very hard to excel (at least in my experience) this is not to discourage you, if you want it, get it.

  5. Very important. In the age in which we live maths is increasingly important if you want to excel at anything and its taken me 35 years to work this out! Get studying

  6. Math is about solving equations.

Math helps an individual to learn problem solving.

Math helps an individual to develop logic.
