  1. I think it can be misleading. Teams go into slumps where they don't score runs, but the pitching tightens up so they don't go on long losing streaks.

The Yankees this year have gotten good pitching, but people are fooled into thinking their pitching has failed them when in reality it's been run production that has been their weakness.

  2. well run differential tells you how many more runs your team scores versus the number they they give up

its not a very important stat in baseball, where you have a 162 games a year, that stat can look great but not really tell much about pitching

it doesnt separate earned runs from unearned runs, so whether or not many of those runs given up are the pitcher's fault or the defense's is left to question

i think the only stat that determines how good a team really is has to be their Win-Loss Record

  3. Run differential isn't that important. The diamondbacks had a -20 run differential last year and still made the playoffs. And they had the best record in the National League at 90-72.

  4. It's hard to grasp this stat since you may have a really good offense and a horrible pitching staff but it may look like your staff is at .500 since our offense numbers are clouding the horrible pitching u have.
