  1. Gold is used in industrial and scientific applications because of it's high electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion. Gold foil was used in experiments that lead to the geiger counter. Colloidal gold particles coated with specific antibodies can be used as probes for the presence of antigens of the surface of cells.  Gold is used as a conductive coating in electron microscopy, and as an electromagnetic shield in demanding applications. Gold isotopes are used in certain cancer treatments.
