  1. they're  important to use in the dryer because they remove the static..(ever have a shirt just cling to you?).. and improve the fresh smell.

  2. It's a personal preference. You don't strictly need fabric softener.

  3. not at all. I've found that 1/2 cup of vinegar in the final rinse works just as well, and doesn't leave a built up residue on your clothes

  4. i just like them when I forget to put in Downy in the wash.

  5. Not important at all. In fact with the dryer I have now they always end up in the lint trap so I quit using them. I use a Downy ball and add softener to the wash instead.

  6. Well if you dont use the fabric softner you fabric will not be soft and you will have static cling

  7. It's your own personal choice, I guess.  I think they make clothes smell nice and keep them from being a static tangled mess.

  8. ive heard people say its just a con and waste of money but seriously you can really tell the difference to clothes that have been fabric conditioned to them that havent.

use the liquid stuff that you use in the washing machines last rinse cycle because it infuses into the clothes and you get better softening and better smell. also by using dryer sheets it can block up the lint trap and could start a fire.

  9. I have found that it is not necessary to use fabric softeners.  I read an article a while back that stated that towels that were continuously dried with fabric softener sheets stopped being as absorbent because the sheets actually coat the fabrics.  Basically, I have some in my cleaning closet int he laundry room, but I bought a box of them from Costco, like 2 years ago, and am still trying to use them up.  I find adding  vinegar to the rinse cycle softens them plenty in addition to helping rinse the soap completely out.  No, it doesn't smell like vinegar either.  Now, I will run towels through the dryer for a few minutes then hang them out on the clothesline, just to help break that crispiness they get, and I may throw in a sheet if I have stuff that tends to get static cling (but usually that comes from OVER DRYING ones clothes) or is from polyester fabrics, which I have have little use for anyways!  I NEVER use it on my microfiber towels or cloths, as it actually will make them useless.  If you have children's clothing with flame retardant on them, dryer sheets can actually reduce the effectiveness of that clothing in the event of a fire.  If I want something to smell like a dryer sheet, I will toss one in, but otherwise, I like the fresh scent of clean, fresh laundry dried in the sunshine!  I don't put ANY softener sheets on my bed linens, I love the feel AND smell of clothesline dried linens with the breeze and sunshine one them, it is amazing to climb into bed all week and still smell the FRESH, that NO dryer sheet EVER put in my clothes when I used to use them religiously.  If you have kids or family members with skin sensitivities, you may find they go away when you limit the use of the dryer sheets and perfumed softeners.  Now I am not saying NEVER use them, just don't buy into the hype that you need them in EVERY load of laundry you do.  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!
