its important becasue then when these topics come up in politics, and you need to vote on what you want your leaders to do, then you need at least a basic knowlege of the environment. And if you hear about a problem in the environment, you can help out, and possibly be paid for what you know. Think Al Gore, and his "report" on global warming. i dont think he knew all that much about it, so he had to pay someone to help him research it, write, and sound accurate.
