  1. Not much, because banning CFCs was easy.

There were readily available alternatives to CFCs.  It was no problem switching to them.

Mr. Phatt, Al Gore playing on our fears.  Yeah right, because Republicans never do that...

  2. You are referring to the Montreal Protocol which was implemented 0n 1-1-89. This treaty was almost unanimous in approval and is considered one of the most successful treaties. 191 nations signed the treaty. Consumers were supportive primarily because industry either developed new ways to use propellants and because there were some exceptions granted for air conditioning. New technology has antiquated the need for older CFC based refrigerants.

  3. Money does talk, but I'm afraid it didn't in this example.

CFC's didn't go away because consumers stopped buying products that contain them, but rather because they were outlawed by governments that actually chose to do the right thing for once.

  4. it is amazing how much control over scientific reality the illiterate actually have.. At the best , th argument against CFCs had a few neurotic morons guessing that there might be a chance that man acually had more that a 1% influence over ozone and other supposedly necessary for existance factors of natural occurance. All those arguments were later proven wrong and the world lost both CFCs and the most successful mesquito killer in history-- DDT.  Now we have more people dying of malaria than ever before.

  5. very. Capitalism. Money talks.
