  1. reciprocal altruism.  division of labor.  economic diversity and specification.

We are social creatures for a reason.

  2. Yes protection of course was number 1 and from that we gained communication skills.  When a dangerous animal comes close by, different sounds are made to warn others.  This is present in many species.  We were able to build on those sounds and adapt them toward non-threatening activities.  Also, we evolved emotions from this situation.  From warning others, we went one step further and starting caring for one another.

  3. IDK

  4. How about protection? Entering a new territory could be dangerous, so being able to look out for each other would be a benefit. Some could forage or hunt while others remained on the lookout for wild animals or rival tribes, and others could remain somewhere safe and guard the children.

Building shelters would be easier and faster if several people could pitch in to gather whatever was available from the environment--rocks, logs, twigs, mud, etc.

Children had to learn quickly what plants to eat, how to avoid bears, snakes, and other dangerous animals, and many other details about their environment. With many people to protect and teach them, they could probably learn such things more quickly.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope it helps!

    Haha, cheese forever! ^_^
