I havn't taken my GMAT yet but I just wanted to know how important it would be in the admissions process. I went to Mount St. Mary's University and I double majored in economics and business with a finance concentration. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA. I want to get into a good school like Berkely or George Washington or Georgetown but how important is your GMAT score? Will my GPA and recommendations help me get in?

  1. You have a good GPA, and of course you need good recommendations, but your GMAT score will certainly play an important role in any admissions decision. Another major consideration for most top business schools is work experience.

I would recommend that you look at the websites of the schools that you are interested in, and have a look at their average GPAs and GMATs--that will give you a good feel for the numbers that they are looking for.

When you're getting ready to take the GMAT, I would highly recommend Powerscore--they offer weekend classes that cover all of the foundational concepts; their materials are totally understandable, and their approaches to the test are very effective (I ended up with a 770).
