  1. 3x - 8 = 7x

    1.  Expand any brackets.  Hmm, none here, so next step.

    2.  Move every term with the variable to the left and all other terms to the right.  Remember that terms are the parts of statements that are added or subtracted together.  Also, remember to switch signs as you switch sides.

    3x - 8 = 7x

    3x - 7x = 8

    3.  Simplify each side.

    -4x = 8

    4.  Divide out to get x on its own.

    x = 8 / -4 = -2

    Let's try the other one.

    5a+2=2(4+a)

    1.  Expand brackets.

    5a+2=2(4+a)

    5a+2=8+2a

    2.  Switch sides

    5a - 2a = 8 - 2

    3.  Simplify

    3a = 6

    4.  Divide

    a = 2

  2. 1st equation:

    >>>>>>>>>>>>3x-8=7x

                                -8=7x-3x

                                -8=4x   (Divide both sides by 4)

                                 x=-2

    2nd equation:

    >>>>>>>>>>>>5a+2=2(4+a)

                            5a+2=8+2a

                            5a-2a=8-2

                                3a=6    (Divide both sides by 3)

                                  a=2

  3. 4x=8 x=8/4=2

    5a+2=8+2a  ---> 3a-6=0 ---> a=2

  4. You need to simplify the terms.  For the first equation, you can combine the terms to get -4x-8=0 so -4x=8 so x=-2

    The second simplifies to 5a+2 = 8+2a, then 3a=6, so a = 2

    You can add or subtract terms without changing the equality as long as you do the exact same operation to each side.

  5. 3x-8=7x

    subtract 3x from both sides so:

    -8=4x

    then divide 4 from both sides so:

    x= -2

    5a+2=2(4+a)

    on the right side your suppose to multiply the 2 with everything in the bracket so:

    5a+2=8+2a

    subtract 2 from each side so:

    5a=6+2a

    subtract 2a from both sides :

    3a=6

    divide 3 to both sides so

    a=2

    sorry if you don't really understand that it hard to explain on a computer

  6. 3x-8=7x

    -3x on both sides

    -8=4x

    /4 on both sides

    -2=x

    5a+2=2(4+a)

    simplify

    5a+2=8+2a

    -2a on both sides

    3a+2=8

    -2 on both sides

    3a=6

    /3 on both sides

    a=2

    Basically, do the exact opposite of what is being done to the variable on both sides. Example: if 2 is being added to the variable, subtract it. I wish you the very best of luck!
