How in the world do you self-publish comics?

i really like drawing my own comics, complete with heroes i made up myself and almost entirely original storylines, but i really want to know is how one goes about self-publishing these things? ive heard of people doing it, but how?

After you draw the volume up, go to http://www.lulu.com I'm not so sure about self-publish comics, but I know a lot of people I asked said they use Lulu to make copies of their comics and they end up selling it over online or at the anime convention artist alley.
