  1. Acapulco is very nice, you'll find an average of 90 degrees year round. People are mostly US tourists, there is tons to do and tons to see

  2. Acapulco is a nice pacific beach resort city. if you are looking for a Las Vegas on the beach that is what you will find.not the casinos but big giant hotel strip on the beach. the traffic is bad in acapulco during the day and it is also very hot and a bit smoggy. there are mostly travelers from the u.s ,canada and europe.the beaches are nice and the bay is gigantic. there are many budget hotels more near where the cliff divers are located. there are also expensive all inclusive hotels and plenty of shopping to do on the main strip.Acapulco also has some of the largest Dance clubs in the americas open almost every night of the week.the food is great.  my only complaint is how commercialized it has become.however the whole state of Guerrero is very nice and you wont be to far from Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo if you wanted to check out some other great beach resorts.especially recommend Zihuatanejo which is cheaper and much more traditional Mexico

  3. North end is the marina where cruise ships come in. Fort of San Diego is there and a nice little park. Fort has a beautiful flower garden at the entrance and is nice hour ( free ) tour to just learn about the history of Acapulco. I think its worth the hour tour. Park is maybe 1/2 mile north of the Fort and is worth a little stroll thru.

The Costera is the main drag and runs the entire lenghth of the bay. All blue buses pretty much run the whole length and cost 4.50 pesos You will find all hotels, bars, shops on the Costera. It is kept clean for the tourists but stroll down a side street and you will quickly see the trash that is the real Acapulco.

Favorite beach - Playa Diana. Its marked by a large fountain in the middle of the bay. I like it for the rocks and gradual slope of the beach. Some areas of the beach have a really steep drop off to the water. Large rocks add intrest , shade and you can dive off them. Close to the Oxxo conv. store for beer too. Oxxo gives you your ice for free if you buy your beer there. Just help yourself to the ice in the beer cooler display near the door.

South end of the bay gets into your wealth. Yes Wal Mart and such is in this section but you can see this end has a little more $$$ feel to it.

Port of Marquis is a small beach and trashy . I dont think it worth your time. Its on the south end one bay over. Colleta is just north of Acapulco and again I dont like it its SMALL and packed. Not my cup of tea.

Start off at half price for goods in the little markets and be prepared to walk and 75% of the time they say " hey , gringo , come on back " They are excellent barginers ! Stand your grnd and remember to divide the price by 10 and that its value / price in US dollars.

Do yourself a favor and travel off the Costera and look around and eat as this is the REAL Acapulco. Dont need to go far just get away from that main drag and try some good food. Pick a street and just walk. Youll see when you get there. Keep your wits about you as they see you as a walking ATM and will try and con you. Taxis are good at this. 50 pesos will take you the whole length of the costera for reference.

Want my favorite little spot - Pie de la Cuesta. Its about a 30 min ride on the north side.I go well past the resturants , small hotels and travel all the way past the air force base, that gets you away from the "tourist" part of the place. Taxi out there is maybe 75 - 100 pesos from the Costera. The "Pie " is a deserted huge expance of beach that is completely deserted. Not a sole on the whole thing. Its maybe 80 yards wide and goes for as far as the eye can see. Flat and quiet - no car horns , buses, yellin kids - just laid back and mellow. Best part is the huge waves ! Ive seen some 30 footers and usually they are 15 some rouge 20 footers. Dont play in them as you will get killed. Seriously. Other side of the road is a large fresh water lagoon . I have my boet and jet skii there. You tube has a few videos of the "pie " but please , if you like a laid back mellow deserted beach go !!!  Pie de la Cuesta is incredible !!!!

Last - lots of little pesky vendors all day in Acapulco ( on the beach ). Pie de la Cuesta - no vendors no nothing , go naked its that deserted.
