How is Barrack Obama classified as black?

I did pretty much answer your own question. He is classified Black because he chose it that way. He was raised by his white mother but I'mm pretty sure he disregards all of that. He is doing a good job pulling the race card, any type of sympathy vote he can, and its a shame that no one will actually challenge him to a political question. Its too bad I could not interview Obama, or someone who will actually challenge and make him define his meaning of " Change ".

Sorry, and this might offend some, but mainstream America still will not accept a person as 'white' if he has black heritage.  In fact, being part black seems to be just as much of a stigma as it was 100 years ago to people who are 1/2 white and 1/2 black.  

Being part-white in the Black community is nothing new...it's been a part of our history since slavery!

I understand your point...but in the real world it's only in theory.

Maybe one day, but race relations have progressed quite that far yet.

Because he can't be the first Black president otherwise. Obama doesn't have any other edge going for him. He can't relate to his black people without being black. Even though he's about as black as Nicole Kidman. He grew up with his white mother and family and didn't even grow up in the USA.

Alicia Keys, Halle Berry, Tiger Woods, and Lenny Kravitz are all half Black.  No one has a problem with them, how come all of a sudden when it's a presidential candidate people want to point out his White side. Is this a way of telling blacks that he's only ahead because he's half white?

And besides, I think most people know that biracial people are half/half.

I'd say he's a" Mulatto".. A Mulatto is a person with one white parent and one black parent, or, more generally, a person of mixed black and white ancestry.

people with ANY african ancestry were classed separate from whites to prevent them from being assimilated into white culture....and in a way it worked because the majority of black/biracial people identify more with african american culture.

To black folk, the fact that Barack has a white mother is irrelevant. The average black person is about 23% european genetically, so we ALL have white family memebers. Barack aint special, and his case aint uncommon in the black community. Almost every one of us has a white grandparent or great aunt or some other close relative, so Barack's being half white is meaningless to us. My mother is half white. So was Malcom X's mother, Louis Farrakahn, WEB duBois and many other prominent black people. How often do black families have lightskinned children or cousins, etc? Both my maternal grandparents are half white, and a whole colour scheme of black offspring came about. White people been havin sexual liasons with black people for so long that being half white has become meaninless to black folk since 85% of the time the babies still come out lookin somewhat black. Bottom line, if you have significant black ancestry: YOU STILL BLACK!

Aside from that, he classifies himself as black. So thats that, end of discussion.

First off, African American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, Indian, we all may have different color of skin but tear off the skin and we all have the same inside. Secondly, we all are people and color should not be what matters here. Whatever the term, black, white, biracial what is important  is what the person is going to do to fix our society when they become president. That is all I have to say, thank you.
